Somehow I can't play on chromecast audio any more. I can connect with my chromecast, but when playing a podcast the sound will be send through device speakers instead of to the chromecast. Please help. Resetting chromecast and device didn't work. I do can play on the chromecast with the device using other apps.

My chromecast device is recognized and when I press the icon and select it, the icon turns green and it claims to be connected.
However all sound continues to be played through the internal speaker of the phone.
All other chromecast enabled apps work as expected.

This used to work until maybe one or two weeks ago.

I have exactly the same issue. I've tried multiple Chromecast Audios, with the same result. This was working fine as recently as a few days ago.

I've also noticed this issue since this morning also. It was working normally only a couple of days ago.

Same behaviour on both my Chromecast and Home Mini. In BeyondPod I can see all my cast devices, can connect, is shown as connected with volume control, but when triggering playback, audio outputs on my device, not to the cast device.

Other apps e.g. Spotify work as normal.

FYI I'm using BP v4.2.16 (not going to update from this).

Any thoughts? Recent cast protocol update?

My phone is a Pixel 2XL. Previously I was able to cast audio to my speakers using Google Home. I still have the buttons to do it, & the icon turns green as if it's casting, but the audio continues to play on my phone. I made sure I can still cast other apps (I can). I also get the frequent pausing behaviour.

Probably because beyondpod is using a deprecated version of the casting SDK and google finally dropped support.

As a workaround, you can cast your entire system audio. Either use the cast icon in your top pulldown menu (if your android has it), or use the "Home" app from google.

Hello All,

Development has some core upgrades they are working on and one of which is getting the app updated with current Chromecast services. Unfortunately, I do not have an ETA from development when we can expect the release with the fixes/upgrades included. I will do my best to push this along faster.

As of 4 days ago Chromecast has stopped working for me too. I hope it can be resolved soon. My guess is it some change to Alphabet's code.

Same problem here with the latest version of BP and the latest firmware for my second generation Chromecast. This worked up until recently and broke within the last week or two.

Kim, can you give me a contact to discuss taking BeyondPod off your hands? It's obviously not a priority for your company, and it's starting to generate some pretty negative press. Perhaps there's a good solution for everybody?

Finally this is it, I've given up on BeyondPod and moved to PocketCasts. I had tried to migrate before now, but always reverted back quickly. I still think BeyondPod is a superior architecture, for my use-case, but the lack proper maintenance is unacceptable.

Back in October you said:

Development is currently in the process of moving BP to Google's new Cast V3 Framework, which renders all of our existing Chromecast code obsolete. As such, we are removing ALL of our Chromecast code from BP and implementing the new framework. We anticipate that this will be released in v4.2.42 (.41 will be nothing but bug fixes, and .42 will be strictly for Cast V3.

So where is .42?

Hello,

.42 has not yet been released. They did work on Casting framework back in October but then some other core issues were noticed that needed to be updated in BeyondPod, so work was continued and .42 was not released as soon as expected. Unfortunately, I still do not have an estimated date of when to expect the release from development yet. As soon as I have that information, I will be sharing that with the users.

Let me chime in, I wanted to see if I could listen to my podcasts while working at home, doing dishes, etc. and chromecast wouldn't work. I tried on my Sony Bravia Android TV also, and it goes black and then nothing.
I tried it from my Galaxy phone, older S5, and chromecast input opened, then black screen. Sound did play on the phone. Very odd, but I hadn't used this before. Seems there's a fix needed, per above messages.

To test Beyondpod, I grabbed the Google app for podcasts (free) and it worked just awesome. Of course, I uninstalled it and want to use BP. My audio books and podcasts live on my SD card, but I don't think that's the issue.
How will we get notified if there's a fix?

Best,
DrWeb

Hello,

Once I have an estimated date/more information from development for a release with the fixes being worked on, I will post in the forum the information.

Thank you for the update. Seems lots of Chromecast issues, not just you.. the MLB app audio won't Chromecast either. Not sure what's up with that either.
Appreciate the help, I rarely need to ask for help with this good app. :)

Throwing my hat in here. Just coming back to BeyondPod after using Google Play Music for a while and missed BeyondPod, (paid version). Pretty important feature, chromecast, is broken?

The app is not up to date with Chromecast new requirements so the development team is updating the core of BeyondPod to sync those up.

Same here - just discovered this last night.

So Chromecast audio support is now gone ...
and bluetooth audio is unstable ...

I'll admit, I just tried PocketCasts ... and hated it! Point is ... this has caused me to start looking for a BeyondPod replacement. I've been with BP since it was on Windows Mobile! Please fix these issues before I find a replacement. I am sure I am not the only one!

Just checking in on an ETA for this? Any news on your casting icon being updated so it actually works?

P.S. I love your app, but this and the fact that I can't auto back up to my Google drive etc. is a real bummer.

So, it's been what, a year now without Chromecast support? Maybe I need to think about moving to a new podcast app. Because this is just horrible.

Same here.
it just says "loading configuration"
I messaged other family members who use Fongo on FB and they all say the same thing. Both Android and iOS are not working.
Status page says operational but its obviously not.

Hi everyone,

I found a work around for this casting issue. Cast your phone to the device and then play your BP podcast. I even turned off my screen and it continues to play. My hub is showing "Audio Mirroring". BUT IT'S WORKING!!! Finally something. I prefer casting to using Bluetooth is I can.

Just like everyone else here, casting is not working for me.
Yes, casting the entire device does work, but that has other issues.
This seems like such a vital feature, and it has been broken for so long.
Why is it that BP has such an outrageously long dev cycle?

Out of curiosity, have you tried the new beta? It's not called out in changelog, but I'd hope it was fixed.
