As per Stefan's post on one of the other BP4.x beta threads, I'm afraid this will have to wait until 4.1. Material Design (as per yesterday's Google I/O) will take precedence.
Yes, adding a dark them has been requested several times. At this point this probably has to wait to 4.1 (but there is a chance that it may come sooner).
OK, I'll stick with 3.x until 4.1 is released I guess.

From what I have seen (and I'm not a developer), the Android L / Material Design tools for developers should make adding themes a little easier going forward.

No. Be prepared to count in months, not days.
Yeah, I won't use 4 until dark theme is added. Just hard on my eyes to use before that takes place. From the looks of it, I think I will like it.
But Google's own products don't allow for dark themes or night mode. Example: Play Store, YouTube (which used to offer a dark theme or night mode.
So restrictions might be placed on BeyondPod at some point, I'm after of happening.

The Player and the playlist are already dark, so in the car, etc. (where you shouldn't be scrabbling around picking things to play anyway), it's not that big a deal.
But a darker skin for the feed and episode lists will (eventually) happen.
