In general, Android Wear does not require companion apps. The Wear component is built into the main Android app.
IIRC, the Android Wear components are in 4.1, but not in 4.0 (although Wear has access to any functionality included in the notification anyway, without any special code). 4.1 is rolling out gradually through the Play Store, or if you don't want to wait, you can download it from the Beta page on the BeyondPod website.

I currently have an LG G watch and starting a few weeks back, I stopped getting a notification when playing BeyondPod on my phone. I just got the latest beta version, but I am still not seeing anything on my watch when BeyondPod is playing. Any suggestions?
Hi, and welcome to the forum.
The only thing I can think of is that you have maybe disabled notifications for BeyondPod. Do you see anything in the notification shade on the phone when BP is playing?

P.S.
The Upgrade Tips about notifications (although Google keep changing their mind about what is supposed to be "correct" behaviour for notifications) may or may not be relevant for you. Anyway:
To comply with current Google design guidelines for notifications, BeyondPod player notification is now shown only if episode is playing and BeyondPod screen is not visible. You can switch to a "permanent" player notification (the same way it was in v3) by checking "Keep 'Paused' Notification" in BeyondPod's Advanced Settings.
Thanks for the welcome!
I do have the notification at the top when BP is playing.
I've tried restarting my phone, restarting my watch, unpairing my watch but still don't get the play/pause options on my watch like I use to. I checked in the Android Wear settings and I don't have any app notifications blocked there. Been driving me nuts.
Doing a Google search I found this post by you: http://www.beyondpod.com/forum/showt...-specifically)
The headset buttons were turned off. I turned it on and it works now. I don't remember turning it off, but must have. Thanks!
Even I forget things sometimes. Glad I was of help.
Is it possible to keep the BP app on my watch "on top" or otherwise immediately accessible when BP is running?
I'd like to be able to use my watch to start and stop playing when I'm in the car, but getting to the app on my watch is currently way way too cumbersome to do while I'm sitting in a chair, much less while I'm driving.
Android Wear is in charge of which notifications you see.
On my own watch (a Sony SW3), as far as I can tell, the most recent notification stays directly accessible (minimised at the bottom) on the watch face screen, and others are accessible by scrolling up.
The main thing you need to do is to make sure that you have "Keep 'Paused' Notification ticked in the Player Settings, so that there is a notification on your phone during playback (and that headset controls are enabled).
Another option you might like to try is Wear Mini Launcher, and set BeyondPod to be a "Bookmarked" app, so that it appears at/near the top of your list of apps.
