When Beyondpod says that there are no new episodes - but there are!

What does it mean when BeyondPod (4.1.48) says that there are no new episodes of a podcast available for download, but, in fact, there are. For example, right now, BeyondPod is telling me that there are no new episodes of the Guardian newspaper podcast "Football Weekly" (http://www.theguardian.com/football/...ly/podcast.xml). However, when I go to the webpage for this podcast (http://www.theguardian.com/football/...footballweekly) it shows a new episode.

I do realize that there's a difference between a webpage that I visit and a feed URL that BeyondPod uses, so I'll allow for the slight possibility that there's something amiss with the podcast feed. However, it seems incredibly unlikely that the one would work without the other.

If you load the feed url into a web browser you can see the last episode at this moment is from November 30th which is the same I see in BeyondPod.

Actually the content of a publisher's feed and web site are quite frequently different.

What is the last episode you see in BeyondPod?

As Tim says, BeyondPod can't show you anything that's not in the feed. You'll need to ask the Guardian to get their act together and actually publish it in the feed when they say it's available

It's easy to look at the feed contents in a browser (and Firefox - desktop or mobile) is particularly good at formatting RSS feeds for easy human consumption.

After your post in this forum, the pod author updated the feed (which you can see when you load the feed URL in a browser). However, Beyondpod still won't download the episode. The last few entries of my log are below.

Any clue why this feed won't update? I've searched for that error (MEDIA_ERROR_UNKNOWN) but only found one post on this forum. In that case, there seemed to be a change in the feed. However, if you use this feed URL and then you pull out the line to the media file (the actual mp3 file), it downloads just fine on a pc. I'm still unclear why BeyondPod won't download this episode.

Could it be because the URL in the xml feed isn't properly escaped? Your web browser is probably helpful and corrects the link by replacing spaces with %20 so that it works.

The Update log rather than the Android log is usually far more user-friendly for update-related issues, and clearly shows - as Appel says, presumably because of the spaces in the file name.
