Thread: Mp4 from media link is being downloaded instead of the mp3 enclosure.

    Mp4 from media link is being downloaded instead of the mp3 enclosure.

    Technet's audio feed at https://s.ch9.ms/Shows/TechNet+Radio/feed/mp3 shows that the enclosure feed is an mp3 file with mp4 media links.
    Unfortunately Beyondpod is downloading the mp4 (and therefore taking up a large amount of bandwidth and disk space).

    feed url snippet is below -
    Code:
    <media:group>
            <media:content url="http://ch9northcentralus.blob.core.windows.net/mfupload/404cf6c3098847dd9d60a5db01230185/TNRWindowsAzurePackconnector.mp4" expression="full" duration="495" fileSize="1" type="video/mp4" medium="video"></media:content>

    BeyondPod 4.2.9

    It has been happening for several versions now - but I've only just got around to taking a look at this.
    I don't have this problem with any other feeds, but then again I don't have any other feeds that I am aware of that do video and audio.

    Hi

    The feed includes other formats in the <media:content> tags, with an MP4 file as the first option. You can force BP to choose the MP3 version by going to the Advanced Settings for the feed, and changing Preferred Episode Format from Default to Use Alternative 1.

    I'm not sure why it would pick one of the files in the media:content, rather than what's within the <enclosure> tags, but changing the Preferred Episode Format worked for me.

    Thanks Julie - that worked perfectly.

    Glad it worked.

    For info (now that I have investigated), when both <media:content> and <enclosure> tags are present, BP uses the content in <media:content> (since the publisher has gone to the effort of using them, we use what the publisher offers). The Preferred Episode Format setting for the feed can then be used to choose which of the media types you want to use.

    In this particular case, it's confused by the publisher ALSO including enclosure tags for the MP3 version (presumably for the benefit of podcatchers that don't support media:content tags), and also naming this the MP3 feed, but then not making MP3 the default (first) format within the media:content block.
