I really would appreciate the support for Goggle home voice actions, so I could control beyondpod through it.

Agreed, although I wouldn't get your hopes up (I've been asking for almost 2 years).
I've jury-rigged up a solution using IFTTT, Join, and Tasker, so that "Update BeyondPod" triggers a Tasker task on my phone that does the "Update SmartPlay playlist" action. It works pretty well, and it's nice to run while I'm getting ready to leave the house. A bit complicated to get set up, and it would definitely be nice to have something more native, but it can be done.
https://joaoapps.com/join/ifttt/ has the broad strokes introduction.
Interesting, does the update smartplay playlist basically just download your feeds and rebuild the playlist?
Not sure how yours is set up, but within the native BP settings I have mine to download all the latest episodes for specific feeds, delete played, and rebuild the smartplay playlist keeping the last played (or currently playing) episode as the top on the current playlist. All it takes is simply hitting the refresh button in the app. You might be able to simplify your IFTT settings by doing this and having google just trigger a refresh.
BeyondPod exposes a Tasker plugin, with one of the options being "Update Smart Play". I think what it does internally is just the same as hitting the update feeds option for the default SmartPlay playlist, which itself does all of the things you mentioned. Really, that was the simple part; the complicated part was getting IFTTT to send the message to Tasker via Join in the first place.
I'd like to be able to control the speed via Google Assistant. I listen to most at 2.2 or 2.7 speed. But when they start to play music or someone has an accent I have trouble with, then want to slow it to 1.0 speed and when it's over back to 2.2 or 2.7 speed. I usually listen while driving so I can't use on-screen controls to change speed.
It looks like the Tasker 3rd party interface can adjust the speed ("Speed Normal", "Speed x1", and "Speed x2", I think with the latter two being whatever custom speeds you've set). So you could probably get that to work via the above method by bouncing through IFTTT, Join, Tasker, then back to BeyondPod. Maybe also add a "skip backward" action to the task, so that it repeats whatever you just had trouble hearing. I don't know whether it would be fast enough to work effectively, or just end up annoying, and it's certainly pretty DIY. It would be nice if we didn't have to jump through so many hoops and rig up so much just to make it work.
I reported a big that I was told would not be fixed related to changing speeds externally.
Changing it externally only lasts until the end of the current Podcast instead of being persistent.
I'm sorry to hear they won't make any adjustments (perhaps a "persist" flag on the event message or something could scratch your itch).
For my own personal needs, this particular item won't be an issue. My speed changes are temporary so it won't bother me for the speed to automatically revert to the original speed for the next podcast. In fact, the current functionality it might be better for my scenario but I understand it would be nice to have the option for speed persistence between episodes or podcasts.
