Have you already confirmed that the alternative application that you have installed can play the file? (By selecting the podcast from that application.) If it won't work that way, then it may be that you're not getting prompted because you still don't have an application that will work.

Nothing will actually happen at the point where you select "Play in External Player". All you're actually doing at this point is telling BeyondPod not to assume that BP should use the default player for that file type. It doesn't prompt for the actual player to use instead until you try to play it. At that point you should get the same Android dialog that you get for all files / links that could be opened with more than one application.

I can play the downloaded file in the other player (BSPlayer). When I attempt to play the same file in BeyondPod with the Play in External Player option selected, there is no prompt, and the previous problem persists.

However, if I select it in the feeds section of BeyondPod instead of the queue section, it does work, so I guess, never mind.

Yes, you're right. You don't get the prompt if you pick something that's already on the playlist.

I'll check whether that's intended behaviour.

It seems that in general external players can't interact with BeyondPod. As a consequence, using an external player doesn't put things on the playlist, and picking from the playlist won't start an external player.
